This is how the acid-base balance works

In order for the metabolic processes in our body to run optimally, we need a pH of about 7.4 in the blood. The acid-base balance of our body ensures that this pH is maintained. However, according to the concept of basic nutrition, which originates from alternative medicine and has not yet been scientifically proven, today we use too many "acidic" foods. As a result, the acid-base balance can get out of step. By sour foods are meant foods that form acids in the organism.

Prevent acidification

If the acid-base balance of our body is disturbed in the long term, it can lead to a variety of secondary diseases. The consumption of alkaline foods or dietary supplements such as Basentabs or base powder should be able to prevent over-acidification of the body.

The acid-base balance describes a system of regulation of the body which ensures that the pH in the blood is kept constant at 7.4. This slightly alkaline pH is regulated by various parameters: Thus, acids or bases can be neutralized by the buffering properties of the blood. They can also be eliminated via the lungs or kidneys.

In alternative medicine, however, the thesis is held that the acid-base balance in the intake of too many "acidic" food from the clock and can no longer be regulated. In the long term, this should lead to a chronic hyperacidity (acidosis) of the body.

What happens in case of hyperacidity?

Excess acidification of the body can be caused, for example, by too much stress, alcohol, nicotine or the excessive consumption of "sour" foods. The body is working at full speed to restore balance. For the increased buffer work especially many basic minerals such as phosphate or calcium are needed. These minerals neutralize the acids and form salts.

Alternative medicine is of the opinion that our excretory organs are overwhelmed by the large amount of salts that are produced during hyperacidity. Therefore, the salts are incorporated, for example, in the connective tissue, which can lead to hardening, but also to wrinkles or cellulite. The first signs of hyperacidity are fatigue, malaise and lack of energy.

If acidity persists for years, it becomes chronic and can cause a host of other illnesses. These include, for example:

  • osteoporosis
  • muscle tightness
  • arteriosclerosis
  • rheumatoid arthritis

Another problem is that the increased consumption of alkaline minerals in hyperacidity can lead to a shortage of these minerals. This in turn can lead to further sequelae.

Sour and alkaline foods

Through our food, we absorb various minerals. Some of the minerals are base-forming, others acid-forming. Acid-forming minerals are, for example, phosphorus, iodine and chlorine, whereas alkaline minerals form iron, magnesium, calcium and potassium. Our body needs both acid and base minerals, but in a specific ratio: this should be between acidic and basic foods around 25:75.

The acidic foods include, for example:

  • fish and meat
  • Dairy products
  • noodles
  • rice
  • loaf
  • sugar
  • honey
  • alcohol

Basic foods, on the other hand, are most fruits and vegetables.
