Lower fever - therapy

To treat fever, many different options are available. It should be noted whether the person who has a fever is a baby, a child or an adult. Not all treatment options are always appropriate for all age groups. For treating fever, calf wrap, fever tea, vinegar stocking or fever-reducing agents may be suitable.

Wrap against fever

The best known fever remedy is the leg and calf wrap:

  • Two towels are moistened with lukewarm water and wrapped around the lower leg.
  • A dry cloth is wrapped over it.
  • Such reels can be left well for an hour and repeated as desired.

Normally, the temperature drops by half a degree after just 20 minutes. If feet and lower legs are cold despite elevated body temperature, reels remain ineffective.

In the early stages of fever, even a footbath can help: start with body-warm water and bring it gradually by adding warmer water to 39 degrees Celsius.

Hot tea

The calf wrap inevitably includes the fever tea. There are a lot of recipes for teas that promote sweating and boost your body's defenses. After drinking a fever tea one should go to bed. The best time of day for a sweat cure is the late afternoon. At this time, sweat production is stronger than usual.

A suitable recipe for a fever tea looks like this:

  • Mix 30 grams of lime blossom, 30 grams of elderflower and 20 grams of rosehip peel at your local pharmacy.
  • Pour a teaspoon of it with hot water in a cup.
  • Leave the tea for five to ten minutes and then pour it.

Alternatively, there are also corresponding bag tents.

Vinegar stocking after Kneipp

A home remedy recommended by Pastor Sebastian Kneipp is the vinegar stocking:

  • For the tincture mix four parts of water and a portion of apple cider vinegar.
  • In it, a pair of cotton knee socks are dipped, wrung out and then put on.
  • With the stockings on, the legs should now be wrapped in a blanket.
  • After 45 to 60 minutes, the stockings can be pulled out again.

This procedure can be repeated up to three times a day. The vinegar stocking should stimulate blood circulation and promote sleep. This supports the immune system while providing the necessary rest.

Antipyretic drugs

As antipyretic drugs, active ingredients such as acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), paracetamol and ibuprofen are used. ASA (for example, in Aspirin ® ) should not be given to children, as the life-threatening Reye syndrome may be the result. Therefore, it should be better to use ibuprofen or acetaminophen.

The antipyretic drugs put the "thermostat in mind" back. As a result, the body releases heat through sweating. Useful are the drugs in severe illness. Then a doctor should also be visited.
